Le repos
Niniko Morbedadze reflects on the world around her through surreal, dreamlike compositions that explore the subtle relationships between people, nature, and their surroundings. The unspoken is communicated through glances, gestures, and the quiet interactions of figures inhabiting fantastical yet strangely familiar settings. While ambiguity often prevails and narratives remain open-ended, carefully placed visual details shape the atmosphere and rhythm of each work.
The works presented in Le Repos are united by a sense of calm, pause, and quiet intimacy. Morbedadze’s figures gather in moments of leisure, contemplation, and creative exchange, inhabiting spaces that feel removed from the demands of everyday life. Nature becomes a site of retreat and connection, while the compositions evoke a slowed sense of time in which rest, reflection, and togetherness take center stage.
The exhibition features five paintings on canvas created between 2023 and 2024 in acrylic and ink, alongside a diptych on paper. Through delicate linework, layered textures, and richly atmospheric imagery, Morbedadze creates immersive worlds where serenity, mystery, and subtle tension coexist.
